The Dragonets of Destiny

At the moment my son and I are reading the series Wings of Fire, one chapter every evening. I think I’m enjoying it as much as he is, I’m often hanging out for the next chapter and have to hold myself back from finding out what happens next!

If you’re not familiar with the series, there are over 16 books now, with story arcs over 5 books. We’re currently reading book 8 and I’m just as entrenched in the second story arc. In the first series of 5 books there are 5 “dragonets of destiny” who go out into the world to discover themselves, find their origins, and learn how they can influence and stop the current world war.

This is my impression of the 5 dragonets of destiny, what they are like and what remedy might be appropriate to support them. This will have some spoilers for the books, but will also focus on how they are in the early stage of their own story with their doubts and feelings.

Clay is a MudWing dragon. He is big and gentle and is a protector, always looking out for the other dragonets. He is ruled by his stomach, always hungry and even dreaming about food. Clay doesn’t want to be violent, and while he is big, he is protective and loyal to the group. He worries that he isn’t smart enough and is concerned about keeping the other dragonets safe.

A remedy for Clay would be Calc Carb. Calc Carb LOVE to eat – dragons hunt their prey, but in humans it will be carby, creamy or dairy foods. As much as they are even tempered, Calc Carb can also be quietly obstinate, and once they have made up their mind they are an immovable rock.

Tsunami is a SeaWing dragon who jumps in to things impulsively, quick to temper and with a desire to be in charge. She is bold and fierce, a good fighter, fearless, with a strong sense of justice and loyalty. She struggles to open up and feels torn between her friends and her new found family.

Tsunami reminds me of Sulphur (a perennial favourite remedy of mine). Sulphur can be a remedy for someone with strong leadership skills, but also the desire to do things their own way. For some Sulphurs (and Tsunami), sitting and studying is not their thing, they prefer to be active and doing things. Sulphur can be explosive like a volcano, and is fierce in defence of what they care about.

Glory is a RainWing dragon who has been told for years that she doesn’t belong, she is only a place holder because there was no SkyWing egg. Because of this she is independent, observant and intelligent with a good head for strategy and a sarcastic wit. She is deeply defensive, and feels overlooked and useless.

For Glory I think of the remedy Lachesis. They can feel forsaken, or jealous of the attention given to others – and in some cases (not for Glory) this can be seen as behavioural problems. Lachesis can have an intense personality, talkative with a quick and cutting wit. This is often self-deprecating to hide their feelings, as well as razor-sharp to cut down those who cross them.

Starflight is a  NightWing dragon with a love of learning and a reluctance to act. He is intellectual, loves learning and values the truth. He feels inadequate as he doesn’t have any of the NightWing psychic powers written about in the scrolls he loves, and is afraid of danger and confrontation which makes him feel inadequate compared to his friends.

Starflight could be helped by Arsenicum Album. This is a remedy for people who are smart, intellectual and think a lot – but they also can think too much and worry about everything. They can be fastidious, wanting things done a certain way, keeping thing clean and tidy.

Sunny is a SandWing dragon. She is much smaller than other Sandwings and doesn’t have the sting in her tail. She is unfailingly honest, and her personality matches her name, happy and cheerful. She is idealistic, hopeful and empathetic, with the ability to see the best in others. However she is also small, underestimated by others, and struggles with her identity and worries that she is naive and not as important as the others.

Sunny made me consider several remedies, but I came to Silica for her. It is not a major remedy for empathy, but they are cheerful, even-tempered and can be optimistic. Silica does not like to make waves, but when it comes down to it they can be stubborn like Calc Carb. They can be intimidated by responsibility, but will dedicate themselves to doing the work required.

So the question is, which dragonet do you identify the most with?
